Employment history is verified directly through the listed employer, through third-party verification databases such as the Work NumberThomas & Companyi2 Verify, and other systems used by employers which are directly integrated with our cloud-based system, or by requesting supporting documents such as a w-2 form, pay stubs, and other partial proof of employment verification from your applicant when no other information is available.

DOT Employment Verification

Businesses that are regulated by the Department of Transportation (DOT) must conduct a DOT Employment Verification before hiring commercial drivers. A DOT Employment Verification gathers detailed information about the candidate’s employment history and driving record during the past three years of employment. In order to comply with DOT regulations, a DOT Employment Verification must contact all of the driver’s employers from the past three years to ask all of the questions required by the FMCSA in DOT Rule 49 CFR Part 391. In addition to verifying general employment information, such as dates of employment and job title(s), the DOT Employment Verification should confirm the following driving-specific information:

Whether the driver had any accidents on the job

Whether they ever had an alcohol test with a result of 0.04% or greater or had a positive drug test

Whether they ever refused to take an alcohol or drug test

Whether they failed to undertake or complete a rehabilitation program if one was prescribed by a substance abuse professional

Each DOT-regulated employer must either send a record of any accidents and violations or confirm that there were no reported accidents or violations. If former employers don’t respond to inquiries, the file should document that a good-faith effort to get the information was made.

Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Verification

Verifies employment, education, credential, DOT and other record searches mandated by the FAA. Covers pilots, mechanics, and other FAA positions.

Verify attendance dates, current enrollment status, or diploma/degrees earned for any high school, college, or university in the U.S.

Education history is verified directly through the listed educational institution, through a third-party record provider like the National Student Clearinghouse (https://www.studentclearinghouse.org/), through a verified third-party Secure Verification Transcript provider (i.e., Transcripts Network, Credentials eScrip-Safe, CeDiploma, WES Credential Verification), or by requesting supporting documents such as a copy of an official transcript, a copy of a degree that includes original signatures/embedded logos, or other forms of documentation provided by your applicant that is acceptable as proof of verification by your agency.

Professional/Personal Reference Check

We will gather requested information electronically or through a phone interview for each single professional/personal reference provided by your applicant. Our verification consists of a series of selected questions relating to the reference’s experience working with or history with the candidate. The written transcript of the interview will be made available to the employer in the final customer report.

Professional License /Certification Verification

Verify any domestic professional license, including issue date, expiration date, credential title, and current status. Each Professional License Verification covers a single license claim.

Each license will be verified directly through the agency or body that issued the certificate/license. We can request that the applicant upload a copy of their document to be listed as a downloadable attachment with your final Background Screening report.
